Marmalade Bar / 2024
Architect Ruddy Hernández and I worked on a proposed renovation for the bar area in the high-end restaurant Marmalade in Old San Juan. It was in need of an update to reach the sophistication of the rest of the restaurant. The owner already had a color palette selected and had comision for some drappery for the top of the bar. We designed the new bar and the back of the bar. We chose an exotic green stone for the bar that fit the chosen color scheme and the eccentricity of the restaurant. For the back bar, we designed a display made of walnut wood and with a bronze mirror in the back. We also covered the closest column to the bar in the same materials, and we designed the host station millwork. We chose minimal back spotlights for the above bar lighting to keep the dimness the area currently had. All in all, we find that the renovation cleaned up the space, kept a minimal aesthetic, but with strong material choices that kept in harmony with the restaurants style.
